Asian operators in Axiata Group and (Streaming or Subscription Video on Demand) SVoD service provider Iflix have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) relating to the expansion of their strategic collaboration to bring entertainment content to Axiata’s more than 125 million customers in six countries including Malaysia , Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Nepal.

From two existing partnerships with Celcom in Malaysia and Dialog in Sri Lanka, the regional collaboration has now been extended to Axiata’s customers at XL in Indonesia, Smart in Cambodia, Robi in Bangladesh and Ncell in Nepal.

Axiata is one of the leading telecommunications groups in Asia with approximately 320 million subscribers in ten countries. Axiata has controlling interests in six mobile operators under the brand names of ‘Celcom’ in Malaysia, ‘XL’ in Indonesia, ‘Dialog’ in Sri Lanka, ‘Robi’ in Bangladesh, ‘Smart’ in Cambodia and ‘Ncell’ in Nepal, with strategic interests in ‘Idea’ in India and ‘M1’ in Singapore, plus Multinet, a leading independent telecommunications solution provider in Pakistan and edotco Myanmar, formerly known as Myanmar Tower Company (MTC).

Meanwhile, iflix Group Chief Executive Officer, Mark Britt said the company was keen to collaborate with Axiata in redefining media and entertainment for its customers in the region.

According to wikipedia, iflix is a subscription video-on-demand service focused on emerging markets. Its regional headquarters for Asia is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The site serves as a digital hosting and distribution platform for Western and Asian dramas obtained through partnerships with over 150 studios and content distributors globally including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Disney, Warner Bros, Paramount, NBC Universal, Fox, CBS, BBC, Sony Pictures and Discovery.

iflix is currently available in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Brunei, the Maldives, Pakistan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt and Sudan. As of May 2017, iflix has more than 5 million subscribers across its service.
